I began working as a newspaper photographer on free newspapers in the West Midlands in 1987 after gaining a National Diploma in Photography from Sandwell College. I was a staff photographer on the regional daily The Northern Echo in Darlington for 24 years, apart from brief spells at Assignments photo agency in Norwich and The Journal in Newcastle. I am now freelance.
