Griffiths has run the venue for the past 15 years. Formerly known as the Bridge House Tavern, the pub was renamed The Phoenix following a fire in 1968. It's closure comes amid a wider wave of pub shutdowns linked to tax hikes, rising business rates and increasing operating costs within the hospitality sector.

Since fleeing Northen Africa (Algeria) to cross to the Balearic islands, he spent seven days at sea, two of those in the water where he has sustained friction burns from the life jacket and intense salt water burns too after the boat lost power. Having swam for rescue, Samuel has since lost two friends at sea and does not know where they are now. His goals are to settle in the United Kingdom where he has plans of enrolling into education. Arrivals to the Balearic Islands from Algeria are up 170% in 2025, with boats taking 40+ hours to reach Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. While EU entries fall overall, the islands face record landings, overcrowded shelters and growing calls for Frontex support.

He required that each newly-elected Mayor should come upriver to distant Westminster and swear loyalty to the Crown, and the Mayors have been making that journey for over 800 years. Around them grew up a noisy, colourful, joyous procession that over the centuries became known as the Lord Mayor's Show.
