POKROVSK, UKRAINE - OCTOBER 15: Natasha, 63
sits on her chair in the early afternoon light of their small room, gathering strength for the rest of the day in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region, Ukraine on October 15, 2024. In a small, crumbling house on the outskirts of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, a family clings to survival. The couple, who once lived a quiet life on a smallholding they built with their own hands, now battle immense hardship. In 2017, they were forced to flee their home in occupied territory, leaving behind everything they had worked for. Even Natasha’s passport was lost. She has been unable to get another as the land she was born on, Ukrainian land, is now occupied. This leaves her without any government assistance. When the couple arrived in Pokrovsk, Ukrainian soldiers allocated them an old, rundown house. It is shelter, but far from the life they once knew. Now disabled, Natasha is cared for by her husband, as war creeps closer once again.
