This series of images documents the colourful people that work tirelessly all year round maintaining the history of the steam fair, which is struggling to survive in the face of rising costs, council charges and other hardships. For almost 40 years family run Carterís Steam Fair, based near Maidenhead in Berkshire, has travelled the spring and summer months around the UK offering a glimpse of steam powered history to the public. Most of their work goes unseen in the winter months working to maintain and restore the rides to full glory while back at the yard. Carters showcases rides dating back almost 120 years, with the centre piece ride, The Gallopers, dating back to 1895.
