The Conference will feature contributions and appearances from dozens of artists, including Cornelia Parker, David Shrigley and Jeremy Deller. The brainchild of Bob and Roberta Smith and co-organised by him with Scarborough’s Crescent Arts, it was inspired by Smith’s artwork ‘A Letter to Michael Gove’ in which he lambasts the Education Secretary for his stance on art in schools. It is the first of its kind and will take place from 2pm to 2am at the Spa Conference and Entertainment Venue. It will be an antidote to all other conferences and will act as a forum for debating the future of the arts .The Art Party, which is not aligned to any political party, hopes to influence decision makers to listen and to think again.

Eric Edwards MBE. Eric, 67, who began working at the reserve in 1967, has kept the Broads traditions alive with his trademark smock, hat and neckerchief and is one of only two reedcutters in the Broads to still use a scythe. Awarded an MBE three years ago for services to the Broads, he has given thousands of talks and demonstrations to schoolchildren who stay at the How Hill Environmental Study Centre, captivating his audience with his enthusiasm and his personal collection of Victorian marsh tools and traps. Although he was reportedly “very quiet” when he first came to How Hill, Eric, a former Norfolk County footballer from Ludham, has become a media celebrity. He has appeared in the Generation Game with Bruce Forsyth and Jim Davidson three times, was interviewed by Sir Harry Secombe in Highway, appeared last month in The New Paul O’Grady Show, and is a regular in television documentaries about the Broads. He has given Margaret Thatcher and Prince Charles lessons in stacking and dressing reed – famously telling Lady Thatcher she was “doing it wrong”. Pictures of Eric can also be found on cards, postcards and paintings depicting the romance of the Broads. Photograph by Jason Bye Credit Mandatory

Nick Clegg is MP for Sheffield Hallam and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He was born in 1967 and studied at three universities: Cambridge, Minnesota and College D’Europe. Nick worked as a trainee journalist at the US magazine The Nation and won a national prize for first time writers at the Financial Times. He then worked as a development aid and trade expert for the European Commission, including managing aid projects in some of the poorest parts of the former Soviet Union and leading the European Union side in negotiations for China and Russia to join the World Trade Organisation. He was elected as a member of the European Parliament in 1999, where as Trade and Industry spokesman for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe he led the move to open up the domestic telecoms market, allowing consumers to pick their telephone provider for the first time and advocated trade measures against illegally logged timber. He was a co-founder of the Campaign for Parliamentary Reform, which argued for more transparency and accountability in the European Parliament. Throughout his time as an MEP, Nick wrote essays on public policy issues including greening the WTO, secondary education policy, and reform of the EU’s decision making procedures. For several years he was a columnist for Guardian Unlimited. Nick stood down from the European Parliament in 2004 and lectured part time at Sheffield and Cambridge Universities. He was elected as MP for Sheffield Hallam in 2005 with a majority of 8,682. Charles Kennedy appointed him as Europe spokesman, acting as deputy to Sir Menzies Campbell. When Campbell won the 2006 leadership election, he appointed Nick as Shadow Home Secretary. He spearheaded the Liberal Democrats’ defence of civil liberties, campaigned for prison reform, a liberal approach to immigration, and defended the Human Rights Act against ongoing attacks from across the political spectrum. In January 2007 he launched the Liberal Democrat’s We Can Cut Crime campaign, widely welcomed by local campaigners as a new and successful way for the party to campaign effectively on crime. Nick was elected leader of the Liberal Democrats on 18 December 2007, two months after the resignation of Menzies Campbell. Focusing on marrying the party’s twin traditions of economic and social liberalism to deliver social justice, he has pledged to double the Liberal Democrats’ representation in parliament. Nick is married to Miriam Gonzalez Durantez and has two young children. Photograph by Jason Bye Credit Mandatory t: 07966 173 930 e: [email protected] w: https://www.jasonbye.com

Maggi Hambling's famous Scallop sculpture on Aldeburgh beach. Maggi Hambling, the art world's "female Bacon", joked that she was being awarded a CBE because of the popularity of her controversial Scallop sculpture. The 12ft-high sea shell, which was erected in 2003 on Aldeburgh beach in Suffolk to celebrate the British composer Benjamin Britten, has been condemned as an eyesore by some locals. In Suffolk, her £70,000 Scallop has been repeatedly vandalised and daubed with words such as "move this tin can" and "rubbish". Author, Raffaella Barker at her home in North Norfolk. Raffaella Barker was born in London in 1964 and moved to Norfolk when she was three. Her father, the poet George Barker, had 15 children; she is the oldest of those by the novelist Elspeth Barker. She spent her childhood in Norfolk sulking and refusing to get dressed, going everywhere in her nightie. She recalls worrying about how to respond at school when asked how many brothers and sisters she had. She did not know the answer. After Norwich High School, Raffaella Barker moved to London and did life modelling and film-editing. She landed a job on Harpers & Queen magazine and later freelanced as its motoring columnist. For 10 years she wrote a column for Country Life about her week. Her debut novel Come and Tell Me Some Lies was published in 1994, followed by The Hook, Hens Dancing, Summertime, Green Grass, the children's book Phosphorescence and A Perfect Life. Divorced, she lives in Norfolk with her three children aged 17, 15 and eight. Photograph by Jason Bye Credit Mandatory t: 07966 173 930 e: [email protected] w: https://www.jasonbye.com
